OMG, Pictures of Knitting!
November 5, 2007 on 3:00 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 CommentsI have been knitting, I just haven’t been taking any pictures. So, I decided that needed to change. This weekend I focused on getting the Dragon Scarf finished for Sandi. I’m going to be seeing her this coming weekend and I thought it would be a great time to get the finished scarf to her (it is a Christmas present for her daughter).
I have to say that I am a bit disappointed in this project. The size is supposed to be about 62″ long, but I didn’t get anywhere near that length. I’m pretty sure they used a child size dress form to take the picture on the website site. I used the recommended yarn (Sandi actually bought a gray color for this one) and the recommended needle size (I went with size 7). At most I would expect it to maybe be a little smaller if my gauge was off. But not as small as it turned out. I don’t think I missed any repeats. The ridges on the spine is really cool with three-needle bind offs, but the way the pattern is written, you can easily miss a repeat or three.
Since Sandi’s daughter is in college and at least 5 inches taller than me, I blocked for length instead of width last night. This made for a very skinny scarf. More serpentine and less draconian (is that the right word). Hopefully after I add the eyes and steam from his nostrils, he will look less like a tape worm and more like a dragon.
I also received the yarn for my baby blanket. I’ve decided to go ahead with the Moderne Baby Blanket but I’m going to switch up the patterns. I saw a blanket on Raverly that did that and I liked it! It is a great solution to my dilemma and a great compromise between what Scott and I both wanted in a baby blanket (he wanted more of a sampler feel and I liked the modern log cabin). Since each color only appears in three blocks, I picked out three different stitch patterns (garter, star, and honeycomb). I have my color and stitch pattern placements all figured out and I cast on yesterday for the first square. I’m using Knit Picks Swish Superwash in colors Baby Blue, Capri, Sand Dune, and Truffle (which isn’t as dark as it seems in this picture). This was color way MBB6 for those who voted.

Ok, sorry, what I meant to say before was that I’d found your blog from Heather’s site and have been lurking, and oh, btw, you’re welcome to come lurk at my blog as well.
(Now crawling back into my hole and hiding again.)
