We are home!
April 12, 2008 on 1:32 pm | In Henry | 1 CommentAfter three ambulance rides, three hospitals, seven xrays, two ultra-sounds, one echocardiogram, and lots of blood work, they have determined… nothing.
Everything has come back normal and they have no clue what happened. They finally discharged him Friday evening and we left the hospital about 7:30 pm. It was a very long three days. He started to act more like himself about 3 pm Wednesday and his legs were looking better and better as time went on. So much so that the doctor who saw him for the first time on Friday said that if she didn’t know his history she would think nothing was wrong with him (not that we have actually determined that something is). There were two reason why we were being bumped up the hospital ladder (started at a small local hospital and ended up at the area children’s hospital). The first reason was because no one had a clue what was happening. The second reason was for the GI cat scan. The first place didn’t have the facilities to do it so they sent us to the next hospital. At the next place, they scratched their heads and said something about wanting it done right so forwarded us on. But the third place ruled out GI stuff pretty early and never did the GI cat scan. They said that if it was GI (like twisted bowels or the telescoping thing) it would have repeated on the order of hours (it didn’t) and he doesn’t look like a baby with a GI problem (too healthy and big). The possible things they were looking at ranged from GI issues to seizures to abuse to clots. I think they’ve ruled out everything so now we follow up with doctor visits. We were waiting for the ophthalmologist to stop by to check his eyes and see if there were any broken blood vessels, but after 24 hours the doctor finally called to say he wouldn’t be able to see us until Monday (he was called Thursday afternoon). Once we heard that they sent us home since that was the last thing the Hematologist was waiting for. I asked if I could follow up with an ophthalmologist closer to home since the one on call is over an hour away. They said that was okay and I’m going to call the pediatric one that Noah sees. But if they can’t see him on Monday then I guess I’ll call the one far away.
So, here is Henry and Scott. Check out the steel cage… I mean crib. I took this picture Friday afternoon after he was freed from all the sensors (which he kept pulling off).
Unlike the second hospital we went to on Wednesday, which is where he was with the flu/pneumonia, this place didn’t have a nice twin bed for us to share. Instead they had a chair that converted to a bed. Here is a picture of Scott in the bed/chair. Now image the two of us sardined into the bed at night time. And of the three hospitals I’ve eat at in the past four months (counting where Henry was born which wasn’t included in Wednesday’s tour), this place had the worst food.

Jenni, I’m so glad to hear that you’re home and that Henry is doing better! It must be frustrating to not know what happened but I certainly hope it doesn’t happen again. I hope you all get some rest over the weekend and are back to feeling like your normal selves soon! (((Jenni, Scott and Henry)))
