My Little Snot Monster
March 11, 2008 on 8:22 pm | In Henry | 8 CommentsI think this about sums up my weekend…
After spiking a fever of 104 Saturday night, we went to the ER (got there about 10:30pm). He was diagnosed with flu and pneumonia and he was admitted about 4am Sunday morning. They weren’t 100% sure of the pneumonia because you can’t tell a baby to take a deep breath and hold it for the chest ray. So the gray parts were either pneumonia or parts of the lung that had shut down because he was taking shallow breathes (is the shutting down thing normal?). Because of his age (and the way he was pulling in when breathing), they treated for pneumonia anyway. Once the mist tent went up on Sunday he started to breathe much better and has been getting better since. He was discharged Monday afternoon and today his pediatrician was very happy with his improvement and said to wait another day before going back to daycare (I have no leave left since I just got back from maternity leave). Oh and Henry was nice enough to give me the flu so I’ve basically been in bed the last two days tooand DH has been taking care of both of us. I guess if one of us had to get sick, good thing it was me. The antibodies my body is creating to fight this will help Henry get healthier that much faster (via breast milk).
I’ve heard everyone say to expect him to get sick his first week of daycare, but pneumonia and a hospital stay? The good things going for him is that he is usually really healthy and a nice solid weight (15 pounds 7 ounces at today’s visit and he’ll be only 3 months old tomorrow). He is still a little snot monster. We were able to take the mist tent with us, but right now we are only using the hose to direct the mist from his cool mist humidifier to the head of his crib.
