Comments and Yard Sales
July 7, 2006 on 12:00 am | In Uncategorized | Comments Off on Comments and Yard SalesA while back I changed the comments to only immediately publish comments from trusted commenters. I can only designate someone as trusted if their comment is waiting to be published. So, as people post, when I remember to go and publish them, I’m putting you guys as trusted commenters. So, if you post a comment and don’t see it for a while, that is what is happening.
So this long weekend was very loooong indeed! I decided to take Friday off, so I had a full 5 days at home! I spent about half that time getting stuff ready for the July 4th mile long yard sale that my mom and I got a booth for. Of course DH will argue and say that I only spent maybe half a day getting ready. That might be true but it sure felt longer. Monday evening DH helped me load everything into his truck and I drove the 45 minutes to my mom’s house (by myself… with a full truck I’m not used to driving… with a broken speedometer!). The good news is that nothing flew off the truck and I didn’t get pulled over for speeding. Then mom and I spent the rest of the evening putting prices on things. We finally went to bed about 11:30 or so. And then go up bright and early at 4am! We had a booth in the firehall and the fire trucks were moving out at 5am and the yard sale started at 6. We had loaded up the truck and mom’s SUV Monday night, so after some breakfast, we drove the twenty or so minutes to the firehall on the otherside of town. We set up our booth and got down to some serious selling. Okay, not really. We sold maybe half the stuff we brought (maybe less) and made about $100. At noon, we packed up the remaining stuff for mom to freecycle and headed home. I’m happy to report that the only thing that I took to sell that came hom with me was a santa/wizard candle. I also brought home something that looked like a replacement string for a lawn trimmer.
But my July 4th didn’t end there, oh no! We were having friends over. Keith and Carol are moving to TX next week (army), so this was our last chance to see them. My band plays the music to the fireworks at a local park and Keith and Carol had already made the decision to go see fireworks this year before they moved away. So, our offer came at a good time. DH cooked up a storm like usual (he doesn’t quite understand yet how much 4 people eat!). Do four people really need two pies? But that is okay because he made me a coconut custard pie! After dinner, I raced off to the high school (with the truck yet again) and helped move the music stands to the park. The fireworks started about quarter after 9 and away we went. Lots and lots of marches. My oboe teacher told me the secret to marches on Saturday. He said, “Skip the off beats, that is what french horns are for. Only play the fun stuff.” He is a retired Air Force musician so I guess he would know his marches. Then we packed everything up and got stuck in traffic. I think we didn’t get back home until about 11 pm. Man was Tuesday a long day for me… remember I got up 4 am!
I think I’m still recovering from Tuesday! Oh and I almost forgot. I finished up the painted warp scarf for my MIL’s birthday next month. I’m happy with it, I just hope she is too.
