Achoo!
February 8, 2005 on 1:00 am | In Uncategorized | Comments Off on Achoo!Guess who finally got the bug that has been running around? I mean everyone I know didn’t have to be so generous. In the past couple of weeks, something has been going around work. To the point that I was the only person not sick in the area. And then my friends and family were sick… and I think DH said some of his co-workers were sick.
So, I stayed home yesterday and felt like death warmed over. I started to feel a bit better than started to feel bad again… and repeat. I didn’t get much sleep Sunday night, so I made up for that on Monday by sleeping most of the day and then going to bed at 8pm.
My new oboe reeds arrived last night. So, I tried to play them. Between feeling very week from my cold and trying to break in new reeds… man was it a blow. Hopefully I’ll get at least one of these new reeds into shape before the concert next weekend (the 19th). That gives me two practices and one dress rehearsal to get it into shape plus whatever practice I can at home. For this set of reeds I bought from a new person. I was getting tried of buying four reeds and only have one or two good ones. At $18 bucks a pop, that gets expensive (I really need to get better at making my own reeds). The new person is a small operation (just her) so I think it will be two for two with this first order. And she’ll be most likely getting more of my business in the future. Her reeds are more consistent (I got a leaky reed from the old company!), she charges less, I can specify what thread I want (I asked for a variageted that wasn’t purple and got red, white, and blue thread, how cool!), plus she has about a day turn around (her website says 72 hours). I also thought it was a neat touch that the packing material was cane shaving from the early steps of making a reed (maybe from gouging). Oh and the reason why I didn’t want purple varigated? That is the color I’m making *my* reeds in. I also ordered a really cool Altoid cinnamon gum reed case. I wanted something smaller than my twelve reed case so it would fit into my oboe case. This little guy is perfect!
I only stitched on Thursday last week, so not enough afghan progress to post. On Saturday I finished up squares 4&5 and on Sunday started square 6. I convinced DH to stop by AC Moore to get some bamboo needles since the cheapo metal ones I got were driving me insane!
And you know what I just realized? I currently have five nieces and nephews with the sixth one due this spring. The due date is June, which means the baby will probably be born mid May. If that is the case, then of my six nieces and nephews, four of them will have birthdays within about three weeks. And the newest baby we think is going to be a girl (well the tech said she *thinks* it is a girl). I agree with that. I’m pretty good about guess the gender of the unborn baby. My sister wanted a boy mostly because her son and her husband wanted it to be a boy. My sister would be happy with either. I wanted a girl so I would have three nieces and three nephews. Granted it is even for me, but not for my sister or my sister-in-law (who has two boys). I kept telling her that if she had a girl I could make these cute Ugg boots and this really cute chicken dress. Of course now that I’m teaching her to knit, she can make them too!
On the spinning front, about all I did this weekend was to wash my skeined yarn (I had water left over from washing my sweater so I just threw them in aftewards).
