Fun packed weekend!

Wow, what a weekend. Friday was DH’s birthday so I took him to dinner and to see a movie. Dinner was at a Korean Buffet/BBQ place. I felt really out of place. I swear we were the only people there who weren’t Korean. After a really yummy dinner, we saw The Return of the King. Very good movie. I won’t go into detail, since I know a lot of my friends haven’t seen it yet. We saw the 9:30pm showing and since the movie is over 3 hours long, we didn’t leave the theater till close to 1 am. Then we had a half hour drive home. Saturday was day one of the cookie-a-thon. We gathered in our friend’s big kitchen and start mixing and baking. DH made all three of his cookie doughs but only baked up the oatmeal raisin cookies. The rest went into the fridge for baking the next day. We managed to get the gingerbread all mixed up and all the pieces baked for the house (with my friend’s expert rolling help). I was having timer troubles so I over baked some of the pieces… but that is what royal icing is for, right?… gluing the broken pieces together and covering the burnt spots. My friend baked DH a beautiful cake for his birthday. And later that evening, my friends had a movie night. We watched the extended version of the Two Towers. I set up an Ott light and knitted during the entire movie. I’m on my last skein and I’m almost half way finished the 5th repeat. Only 1.5 repeats left to go!Sunday was a continuation of the baking. DH cooked up his chocolate chip cookies and an Alton Brown recipe for chocolate peppermint cookies. I made my magic bars from a slighly different recipe called 7 layer Magic Bar. I left out the nuts like usual and ended up with a 6 layer bar. We started to assemble the cake, but since we frosted the roof green, we had to let it dry… I think it is still in the process of drying…When we got home last night, the Christmas tree was all light up… DH forgot to unplug it Sat morning when we left for the cookie-a-thon. But the house was still standing and there was no fire…I spent the remainder of the evening working on super secret project #1 and made great progress. I have dreams of finishing tonight. And how can I forget the little Chef who helped baked the cake and overlooked all our cookie baking!
